The importance of the 4 pillars of wellness, PLUS my top nutrition tips

I’ve been in the fitness and wellness space now for over 15 years, and one thing I feel people get wrong is that they put too much focus on exercise, rather than looking at their health goals from a more holistic point of view.

That’s why I’ve teamed up with Ethical Nutrients to encourage a more holistic approach to you by incorporating the below four pillars into your individual health and wellness plan:

  1. Nutrition – consuming the nutrients you need to fuel your body
  2. Sleep – getting the rest you need to restore  your mind and muscles
  3.  Stress Management – practicing mindfulness, allowing  your mind and body to relax
  4.  Exercise – keeping active, improving flexibility and movement

Today I’m going to focus in on the first pillar to health and wellness: nutrition!

When it comes to food and nutrition, many people struggle to consume all of the nutrients they need on a daily basis. This means their body lacks the fuel needed to support their overall health goals.

These days, we’re more accustomed to expect stress in our day to day lives, often managing it without a second thought. This means a lot of people are running on empty, and have become a little blasé about the impact it has on the body. We’re exercising and training more, but not always getting the balance right, with recovery, sleep and nutrition taking a backseat.

Striking the right nutritional balance can be challenging, but it doesn’t need to be. If you listen to your body, you will get to know your normal and be able to tell when your nutritional balance is off-centre.

If dietary intake is a challenge for certain nutrients, a simple way to top up your levels is through supplementation. A supplement regime that focuses on your individual dietary requirements can be very beneficial. My personal regime includes magnesium, which I take on the daily (and recommend to my clients) to help fuel our bodies!

The reason I love magnesium is that it has so many benefits.

✅ Helps relax muscles

✅ Relieve cramps, aches, pains & spasms

✅ Supports tender muscles after exercise

✅ Assists general mobility – you can’t move without healthy muscles

✅ Helps alleviate stress when combined with Rhodiola

✅ Calms a racing mind for a better sleep when paired with Passionflower

Consumption of alcohol, coffee and excess salt can deplete our bodies of magnesium, so it may be worth considering a magnesium supplement to top up your dietary intake.

I take Ethical Nutrients #MEGAZORB Mega Magnesium in the morning for muscle support throughout the day, and #MEGAZORB Mega Magnesium Night before bed to help me relax and have a restful sleep each night.

In a typical day, I focus on eating protein with every meal, loading up on greens and fibrous vegetables and I like to get my body moving in some way. I don’t believe that there is one ‘set’ way to exercise, as it is best to find something that you enjoy so that you’re more likely to stick with it.

Some of my favourite ways to exercise are by walking, practicing yoga, Pilates or meditation, weight training or participating in group exercise.

I find that getting out into nature is a great way to feel invigorated and inspired, so be sure to find some time to get outdoors and get moving – it’s amazing what it can do for your mindset!

Complete health and wellness is about so much more than just exercise. It is living with healthy muscles, joints and bones, it’s managing our stress, it’s getting enough rest and sleep, and it’s feeding your body the right nutrients.  With a focus on these four pillars of health, you can get the most out of your day and your life.

You can find Ethical Nutrients in most pharmacy’s or you can order online. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reply to this email, and if you are wanting to supplement for your overall health, magnesium is key!
